Welcome to the Banchory Stags website
Welcome to the home of the Banchory Stags, one of the premier basketball clubs in the North East. The club was formed in March 1993 as a result of a group of enthusiastic players, many of whom had played basketball at school, getting together for a few practice sessions on a Wednesday night under the guidance of coach Mike Reilly. It was decided to set up a committee and Bod McLean, one of the driving forces behind the club, became the club?s first Chairman.
It was decided to enter a team into the Grampian League Division 3 and when the Stag Hotel provided the team strip the Banchory Stags made their first competitive appearance against the College of Commerce. Despite a rather inauspicious start going down 26 ? 19, the same two teams would meet later in the season for a league decider and roared on by the Miles Davis ensemble the Stags won the match with a last minute basket from Bod McLean.
As the club developed over the years there became a need to create a second team, the Banchory Bucks, and this provided the opportunity for youngsters to take part in competition whilst being supported by some of the more experienced players. Presently, the Stags play in Division 1, the Bucks play in Division 2 and the Bulls play in the Development League all run by BasketballGrampian.
